tah.openstreetmap?
Looks like you're defaulting to the 'tah.openstreetmap.org' URL which is for the "tiles@home" layer. This is a slightly weird map style. The OpenStreetMap default "Mapnik" style, is at URLs beginning with 'tile.openstreetmap.org'. This style looks a lot nicer, and this tile server is more reliable.
